Good News! For Noobs

Hi Ed Welch here,

I know that I have not posted for a while but I come bearing good news.

A friend of mine Barry@barry-wells dot com is launching a contest. This is great news for us all. You have the chance to win £300 of software. If you have a blog and would like to take part then the good news is that it is open to everyone so anyone can enter.

Do you like creating videos? Do you want to start creating videos for your blog? Or for your Web Site? Well now here is your big chance. More good news. The software that you have a chance of winning is Camtasia and Snagit.

If you know anything about video production or screen capture then you will know that this is a great piece of software. Absolutely top of the range.

Just hop over to Barry’s blog and look at the rules and be sure to tell him that you will be taking part. Barry’s is a great friendly bloke who will give you every encouragement to complete this task.

We have all heard the old saying that one picture is worth a thousand words. Well that is even more true with video.

If you are new to Internet Marketing take it from me video is the way forward. The old way of static pages is well, not completely dead but certainly going through death throes.

And if you’ve being around for a while then you know this to be true.

When you complete four videos just let Barry know and he will put a link from his site back to yours. Of course you can also upload your videos to YouTube and other video sharing sites. This gives you the opportunity to show case your talents. Also this will drive a lot of free traffic to your site.

We all know that traffic is the key to building a successful online business. If you are into Affiliate Marketing or any kind of Internet Marketing then you need to take part. If you have a fear of seeing yourself on camera then here is that chance to dispel the fear.

The video does not have to be perfect, Barry’s own words, just take part. It will be fun. I also encourage you to visit your fellow contestant’s blog’s and look at their videos you are sure to learn a lot. So what are you waiting for?

Want to be a success in Affiliate Marketing in 2012 and beyond?

Yes of course you do. Then you need MEAT. No, no, no it’s not the edible variety. So you Vegetarians and Vegans can relax. No, let me explain, MEAT stands for:

MENTOR

If you are serious and don’t want to waste a lot of time figuring out this business then you need a Mentor. A Mentor is very often an expert. Someone who has walked the path, sounds a bit like a Jedi, that you are on at this very moment. That person has most likely been where you are now, maybe you are struggling to make sense of all this stuff. All the things that you have to have in place. The order in which you have to put these things in place. The things that are really necessary to have to be successful. They will help you to cut through the hype and guide you keep you on the path, told you…. Jedi. A Mentor will also advise you on the education that you really need or more often educate you on what you need themselves. You could be banging your head against a wall or crying with frustration, stuck on something. A couple of words from your Mentor and in no time at all you have solved the problem.

Education

These are the important things that we need to learn to be successful. This list can be endless here are just a few off the top of my head: Buying a Domain Name, Building a web site, setting up a Blog, Writing sales copy, Content writing, Relationship building, Affiliate Marketing Internet Marketing, Social Marketing etc etc. There is so much to learn, mean while your are being bombarded with adverts and more and more marketing message which probably means that you are most definitely suffering from information overload. As I suggested earlier your Mentor will be able to guide you through this maze.

Application

It it no good getting a Mentor getting educated and then not using it. You have to apply what you’ve learnt. You have to put the lessons into practice. There are a lot of people out there who spend good money buying this training course then the next newest greatest training course, according to the sales copy, then the next and never ever do anything with it. If you are one of those people then you need to STOP right now. I’m just as guilty as the next person, I’ve done this in the past. Then It suddenly dawned on me how much money I was throwing away. And yes you are throwing good money away If you don’t put all of this education to good use.

Tenacity

Yep, what a fabulous word. It sounds better that trying but that is what you have to do keep trying and trying until you succeed. What’s that old saying “if at first you don’t succeed try and try again” And I my case again and again and again. Here in that UK we have this thing, almost a stigma about failure. But in the USA it is different. It is almost like it’s not worth it unless you’ve failed a couple of times. Look at Steve Jobs. I think that is a great attitude, and I also think that it is one that we should adopt. So you’ve got to keep trying. If you suffer a set back, as the song goes, you just get right up dust yourself off and start right over again. Ah but I would add something to that. Hopefully you have learned from your failure and will not make the same mistake again.

Ed.

Once again thanks for stopping by. I would love to hear your thoughts and comments too so if you feel that you have anything to add then please do. Also if you have any questions that you would like to ask then please ask and I will try my best to help you.

Happy New Year.

Wishing you all a Happy and Prosperous New Year. Well the new year is here. Who can believe it 2012. What plans have you made for this year? Are you going forward? Putting into practice what you learned in 2011? Are you striving to improve your skill set? Thinking of strategies to improve your business?

Something that I know that I will be looking at this year is the use of video. Video is an excellent way to promote your business. Also great for building your list. The reason is that you connect on a deeper level with your users by using video. What is that old saying, ‘One picture is worth a thousand words’

Some of you may be worried about putting your face on camera, but may be it’s the time to face your fears. But there are other ways that you can use video. You could get a screen shot program that captures anything you are doing on screen and saves it in a format that you can publish as a video. You could use a program such as Power point make a presentation on screen capture it using your capture software and a voice over and hey presto you have your first video.

You may smile but most of the sales videos, video tutorials that we see on the internet are done this way. Some of you may cry Micro Soft products are so expensive. Yes I would agree. Hey why not try Open Office Org, or Libre Office both are Open Source equivalents? What you get is the full office package for free. Some would say that it looks a bit dated, but hey what do you want prettiness or functionality? So then for next to nothing you could be producing your very own video sales/tutorials in 2012.
Why not join me in pushing forward in 2012. Please leave a comment and share your thoughts. I would love to hear.

To your success,

Ed.

Christmas is Upon us.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy and prosperous New Year. I do enjoy this time of the year. Eating and drinking and spending lots of time with friends and family. The old saying is ” Tis the Season to be Jolly” Well I believe that we should be jolly all year round not just at Christmas. I’m not a Guru, I’m just like you edging my way along to success. May be just a few steps ahead of you or more likely behind you. For the short while that I’ve being blogging the people that I have met have being lovely and encouraging. I’m excited about the future and am looking forward to next year. And what about you, looking forward, what have you got planned for next year? I would love to hear your plans. Have you planned out what you need to do to build upon this year? Putting into practice what you learned this year? I know I will be. Please leave a comment and share your story.

Peace and Love to all,

Ed.

Do you get a lot of annoying emails?

Hi,

What about all those emails you keep getting, aren’t they a right royal a pain in the bum? If you are like me then you may have subscribed to loads of guru’s list and other marketers. Now every… single… day someone is sending you an email trying to sell you something. Doesn’t just get on your nerves?

Well the truth is that you signed up to someones list, usually called a double optin list, giving them the rite to send you emails. Double optin because you had an email, what? not another one, sent to you, to which you clicked on the link authorizing that sender to send you emails. Wake up call! That’s what signing up, or also known as subscribing, to a list does.

Well if you are at the end of your tether well, fear not Ed to the rescue, here is an idea to try out. Change your view point. These emails are not the nuisance that you first thought. What did he just say? Did he just say what I thought he said? Yes I did. Try to look at it this way. These darn emails are an education. Yep that’s right. And they are free to boot.

The point is that some Guru or lesser Internet Marketer as possibly spent a small fortune on these emails. He/she has most likely paid a copy writer to produce compelling copy to entice you into reading more and further still go on and open and read their sales letter. Let us be clear here; have no doubt that the sales letter was professionally written as well. Think about it, how else are they going to sell you? Let’s not forget this is a business and it can be a very big and lucrative business. So now that we’ve got that little rant out of the way, here is the mind set change.

Review all of your emails from these Internet Marketers, yes I know that is tedious. I have read so many of these letters that I start to read then this compelling urge comes over me to go and commit Harri Kari. So I can sympathise with you here. But I digress. Pick the best ones, the ones that grab your attention. Was it the head line? Now read through the rest of the email. Is it compelling? Do you have the read on? Do you want to go and look at the sales page? If you want your readers to open your email then this is how it should read.

This is the free education I am talking about. Some big Guru or Internet Marketer has paid good money for this product, and yes it is a product. All part and parcel of your business. Now create a folder and save these emails in there. I think that we will call it Swipe Files. Now your next task is to learn from them. Educate yourself on how to create good compelling copy. You see! Those annoying emails are a blessing after all. And finally Unsubscribe from the all the other lists. I hope this helps. Let me know your thoughts, leave a comment and share you thoughts.

Ed.

How about being honest?

Hi there,

I want to talk to you about honesty. Yes, I know a heavy subject, but none the less a very important and relevant one.
You see a couple of days ago I finally got back onto the internet. Why is that you may well ask? Well now, for some reason unbeknown to me and many others we lost connectivity to the internet. “Connectivity” that’s a great word isn’t it?

Any way I digress. You see my I.S.P ( Internet Service Provider) Virgin Media had an outage. As it transpires it was a nation wide issue. But of course I didn’t know that, and so too, I would suggest, the other users of Virgin Media network who were affected. With my package deal, I get TV, Phone and Internet delivered through Fibre.

Well I started to go through my usual trouble shooting process. First reboot the modem, still no joy. Reboot it again. is it working, am I online? Ah………….no. You don’t know how many times I rebooted that damn thing.

Ok, reboot my router, go into it’s settings. Is it dishing out I P addresses. Yes it is. Has my computer got an I P? Yes it has. Well that proves my kit is working just fine. Whilst in the settings of my router I notice that I have not got an I P from my I.S.P. Oh my God I hear you cry! What the heck is he on about? What’s all these B****y acronyms?
Sorry about that it’s a consequence of working which computers. Any how what that suggests is that it’s Virgin media at fault and that issue is their end.

Right get on the phone and call them. After the annoying 55 options that they give you, select option one if you want this, select option two if you want that, etc etc. Then finally getting through to a recorded human voice to be told that.”All our operators are busy right now you could have to wait 15 minutes” “No way” I ‘m not doing that, I’ll ring back.

This went on for three days before by a recorded message states that “Customers may be experiencing difficulties trying to access various web sites.
The moral of the story is”what a way to treat your customers”? They could
have posted a message stating that by their telephone help desk on day one. All that they have succeeded in doing is to alienate me and possible many others.

This got me thinking. In our business, in fact any business how you treat your customers is vital to your ongoing business success. How does this apply to you and I? Well your list is your customer base. Oh wait, you are building a list are you not? If not, why not? You should be. If you are having difficulties apologize to your customers and tell them that you are having difficulties.
Now I realize that this may be alien in the current business climate, but by doing this one action that shows your truthfulness and honesty. Moreover it reinforces your integrity. Trust me, that will help cement your relationship with your customers. That in itself places you far, far above many people in the Internet/Affiliate Marketing business. Imagine? Just a simple thing like that.

Ed.

Do I need my own product?

Yes you most certainly do. You might say “Hang on Ed, the Guru’s are telling me No I don’t”. Yes that’s true. I’ve covered that in a previous post. To put it simply they are trying to sell you their products. And they would say that, wouldn’t they?

How do I get a product you may ask? Ask and yee shall be told! Well there are two ways really, the first :
Develop your own product. This could be, write an eBook, write an article, develop a piece of software, build something, if you have a particular talent, or knowledge, then you can teach others, this is not an exhaustive list, but hopefully you get the picture.

The other way is OPP. No, it isn’t a rap song from a few years ago? It stands for Other People’s Products. Obviously depending on the product, you have to enter into an agreement with that party to enable you to use/sell their product. Now here is the tricky bit the other party is bound to put controls and restrictions on what you can and cannot do with the product. Of course they are you would too.

Now let me introduce another concept PLR and Resale Rights.

This particularly applies to Digital products. PLR stands for Private Label Rights. What this means is when you have bought the product from the owner, depending on the restrictions attached, you can sell that product as your own. You may be able to edit it and re-write it (Highly Recommended) put your name on it , keep all of the profits etc. There is usually a Rights.text file attached detailing your rights to that product.

Resale Rights:

A product with resale rights does exactly what it says on the box. You have rights to resell the product and keep all the money. But under no circumstances can you edit the product or claim that it is your own work. Again there will or should be a text file attached detailing your rights. So there you have it. Go and research these two methods and see which one suits you the best.. Yes you can have your own product.

However please remember, at all costs, what you should be doing in selling or giving away your product ( and this should be your primary goal) is giving VALUE. I capitalized VALUE because that is what your product should be doing, enriching your buyers life. So many new Online Marketers/Internet Marketers fail because they are perceived as just flogging a product just to make a quick dollar because they never give value to their customers. Yes I know that is oh so tempting when you are new and struggling. Your product has to be perceived as having value to your customers something that they can’t live without, or you are dead in the water. Think for a moment, would you buy a product if it wasn’t of worth to you?

Wake up Call!

You make it happen!

Hi I am sorry for the shock but it’s true. I’ll say it again, “You make it happen” I’m just as guilty for this but we sit, wait, stand around waiting for something to happen. But the reality is that unless you do something nothing will ever change. It’s sad but true we all do this. This applies to all aspects of life. More so when you are building an online business. You can read as many ebooks as you like or buy as many courses or products claiming to instant success. But the fact still remains that unless you actually do something with all this knowledge you will never succeed. I’m sure you’ve all heard the saying by Lao Tze the famous Chinese Philosopher “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step” How about this one “The man who stands on the side of the mountain with mouth open waiting for roast duck to fly in has long wait” Now I can’t attribute that to some great Chinese Philosopher, please someone tell me it is and give me his name, but It’s a great saying and I love it. But you get the picture. It’s not going to happen unless you do something. As my mentor says, and a friend reminded me the other day “Take Massive Action” Now that does not mean that you have to run a marathon or climb Everest, unless you want to of course, It just means Do something. Now I’m just as guilty as the next person of this. But I’m trying to change that. I try to do a 3 mile walk every night for exercise and I get these moments of clarity and spontaneity. Which is good I think. Now I’ll leave you with one of my own sayings “If things don’t change soon they will stay the same” I Hope this helps. What do you think?

To your success.

Affiliate, to be or not to be.

Hi there,

That is the question. But first some of you may not know or you may be confused about what an Affiliate is. Well an Affiliate is basically a middle man/woman. To become an Affiliate you simply sign up to companies like www.clickbank.com or www.paydotcom.com. They are quite easy to signup to. After you have signed up you browse through the products on offer then select a product in a niche that you would like to promote. Now, here comes the hard bit. I said earlier that you are the man/woman in the middle, let me explain. You have to do all the work. You sit between  the product owner and the customer. You have to drive traffic to the product somehow. That could be Pay Per Click (PPC), Pay Per View (PPV), Write an Article, Write a Blog post, post to Twitter, post to Facebook, whatever. You have to do that. And..how do I get paid, I hear you ask? Well I’ll tell you. A cookie is placed in the browser of anyone you send to the site for that product. Then If that person buys that product any time in 30 days then you would be credited with that sale. You would then  receive a payment for the percentage of the sale.  Now, you may say that’s great, but consider this, you are not, most likely, the only one promoting that product. You could be one of hundreds or even thousands. All competing for the sale. Now don’t believe the hype of the people whose product you are promoting. You may be better than me at this, trust me I never had any real success as an Affiliate. I selected an product and proceeded to promote it through Google Adwords (PPC) Now don’t get me wrong, yes I did make some sales and made some money. But then proceeded to hand all my profit over to Google. You see, with Adwords you have to compete on Key words for that product, and boy that can be very expensive. I quickly realised this so then I set up a web site to promote the product. This reduced my outgoings tremendously but now I was into the realms of Search Engine Optimisation(SEO) That means getting up the ranks of Google, Yahoo, Bing and be on page one or two. Research suggests that people generally don’t search deeper than four pages. I know I don’t. Using S.E.O, there are two ways to approach this, pay an expert to do it for you or do it yourself.

Now having said all of that, Yes! you can make a lot of money as an Affiliate. Now go on, admit it, that surprised you didn’t it. The big Guru’s make a lot of money as Affiliates. How’s that then Ed you ask?. Well, they generally have a big list so they would send an email to their list. Now that doesn’t cost them a dollar, no Google P.P.C. Imagine having a list of 25,000 subscribers or 100,000. Here is the maths bit, math in the USA, your list is worth 1dollar per person, every  time you email it. But that said, you must have a warm responsive list. But that is another post. I’ve gone on to long already.

To you success,

Ed.

Rest in Peace Steve Jobs.

Well the great man has passed.  I wonder who will be the next great innovator of our time? The biggest mover and shaker of our time. Who knows time will tell. He had a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Many don’t know but Steve Jobs had his failures in business along the way. He just had a strong belief in himself got back up and carried on. That’s exactly what we have to do to be successful when you have a set back just get back up, learn from it, and carry on. Have belief in yourself. You will succeed. More that anything Steve Jobs was a Marketing man. He knew how to market a product. He would create an event, a buzz around his product launch. And that, added to a good product, is what makes a business successful. The Apple computer was the brain child of his business partner Steve Wozniak, Steve Jobs new how to market it. That makes the difference. Look at any big successful company, it’s how they market their products and themselves that sets them apart from the rest. What’s the latest buzz word? Branding. Same thing marketing.

To your success,

Ed.
